In October 2009, Bucharest will have a new film revolution. Cinema City Romania, the local subsidiary of Cinema City International, the largest operator of multiplex cinemas in Central and Eastern Europe, will inaugurate the first megaplex in Romania, a complex with 21 cinema screens and approximately 4300 seats. Within the complex, Cinema City Romania will open the first Imax room, thus bringing the public in Romania the most complete film experience.

Besides the 21 cinema halls equipped with modern projection equipment and sound, the megaplex will have two bars and a café. Three of the 21 rooms will be VIP spaces, with a capacity of 30-50 seats. These rooms are designed to provide groups of friends, families or companies, an intimate space and a relaxed atmosphere. VIP rooms offer extra spectators leather armchairs and free unlimited buffet.

One of first offered by Cinema City Romania is Imax, a customized three-dimensional experience. Screen with a size approximately equal to that of half a football field (or high as a building of 8 floors), has a curved shape to cover the peripheral view of all spectators. Arrangement of seats in the amphitheater to each spectator in the action and using Imax polarized glasses, the images seem to leave the screen and float in the room. 3D effects are possible due to film the special 70mm film, 10 times larger than 35 mm film normally used to film projects in regular rooms.

Imax and Megaplex hall will be located in the AFI Cotroceni Palace, the biggest mall in Bucharest of a surface of 210.000 sqm. Cinema City is the sixth Cotroceni inaugarat by the project company in Romania, after the opening of Cinema City Iasi, Timisoara, Cluj and Bacau, which took place during 2007-2009, and the next opening of Cinema City Pitesti, scheduled for July. Cinema City Romania will open a second megaplex, with 15 cinema halls in Bucharest, in Sun Plaza Mall, shortly after the inauguration of megaplexului Cotroceni.
