Les Saltimbancs du Soleil

Published by Beatrice Ene in the Interviews category

What is the image that you have on Romania/Bucharest? We are always very excited to visit new countries/cities, especially when we are the first ones to perform in this new territory! I think the team have great expectations, but are a little afraid of the cold weather ;)

What's your schedule when you go to a new country? Our show schedule always varies depending on the market and the venue in which we are performing. It can vary from 5 to 9 shows per week!

Do you go out, experience restaurants, clubs, museums? The cast & crew members have a fairly busy schedule, but they do enjoy to explore, visit and taste the local flavors of each city/country we visit. Mondays are generally off for the whole team.

How can you know a country the fastest way? I think it is something individual to each person on how they like to explore and learn about each places they visit.

Have you ever brought an outside collaborator for the Music part? How would a show Cirque du Soleil go with a Celine Dion recital? During a show creation, we have brought music directors/creators from around the World to compose and contribute to the music, but every performance of all Cirque du Soleil shows is perform LIVE every night by each band. No collaboration with Celine Dion.

How can someone become a Cirque du Soleil artist? There are many ways to get recruited at Cirque du Soleil, and our casting team is always looking for the best and unique talents of people from all around the Globe.  Artists can send directly their demo on our company website (casting department) and we also have recruiters that are looking and travelling to different shows, competitions, festival, circus, theaters, dance shows and many more to find exceptional artists!

How much time does a performance take to be put together? It varies depend on the show and its format, but in general we say it takes approximately 3 years for the creation of a new show, starting from the first idea to the first performance in front of an audience.

Which is the most appreciated act in a show? It is a very difficult question…. J All of them! depending on personal preferences, cultures and appreciation for a specific discipline. One of the most popular act, would be the Russian Swing – which is the signature act of the show with all the different & colorful Baroque characters!

Do the artists have a life outside the Circus? Because we have the image that a circus is a closed universe, apart from the real world. Of course they do! Being part of a travelling show is a unique experience which bonds you to your “second” family (cast & crew members), but also have its challenges due to being on the road all the time, far from your closed ones. The majority of the artists have families at home, which they get to see every tour breaks. Also, some family members are visiting us during our tour in different cities.

What's the weirdest question you've ever had in an interview? This one :)

What's the diet a Cirque du Soleil artist have? There are no specific diets for artists; everyone is taking care of what they eat, and their nutrition, health & fitness. We have a catering company following us on tour, and cooking few different menu options (vegetarian, proteins, etc).

What were the requests concerning accommodation, transport, food for the Bucharest show? We have a person in charge in our team to book hotels and transport for us in each city/country. Those requests are handle by someone internally that knows our needs, and also in collaboration with the hotel chosen for our stay. In terms of food, see above!

How do you travel? By plane or bus if short distance between two cities. Our equipment is transported in trucks (about 15) when it’s in the same continent. If we are planning an International transfer, it will travel by boat or plane.

A message for the Romanian audience? Our team is very excited to come in your country, as you already express such enthusiasm for our show! We are honored and excited to perform in Bucharest and hope it opens the door to the World of Cirque du Soleil!

Sinucideri in post

Primarul? Ciobanul Bucur? Dan Diaconescu? Cum l-ai prezenta? Eu l-as sustine pe Rambo de Bucuresti. Si intro-ul pentru el ar fi ...
